Is psychoanalysis only a therapy?

One could almost call psychoanalysis an approach to life. Psychoanalysis is really a method for learning about the mind – how it functions and how different minds interact on a daily basis. Psychoanalytic theory works hand in hand with biology and other social sciences in explaining and understanding such diverse areas as group behavior, education, history and law. Furthermore, psychoanalytic knowledge is the basis of all other dynamic approaches to therapy.

Sigmund Freud was the first psychoanalyst. Freud was the preeminent pioneer in recognizing the importance of the unconscious mind. He was instrumental in teaching that the dark and seemingly overwhelming forces in human nature can be understood and managed.
